A visit to Gilwell feels a bit like going home after a long time. It is the very cradle of scouting where BP built the movement into what it is today. It is also the place where leader training as we know it started - and till today leaders who attain their Woodbadge wear the Gilwell Scarf.
Most of the younger participants will probably not appreciate the importance of the place today, but it is an experience they will eventually come to terms with.
After breakfast and duties, we boarded the coach for an hour and a half's drive to Gilwell - during which most of us had a nap. Once we got to the site the three teams took turns in three activities - Archery, Team Building and the brilliant Zip Wire. During the last hour we toured the rest of the site and the tiny, - but invaluable - Gilwell Museum.
Once we got back, we had a bit of free time while dinner was being prepared.
The original plan for tonight was a game of lighthouse, but it rained lightly and the grass is wet - so tonight we'll be taking it easy with a guitar and a few songs.
The fresh air and activities are taking their toll on us and we're a bit tired. Tomorrow we'll be waking up a bit later and activities will be starting at 11am - after mass.
